If Mr. Briatore is staying around... PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 10 January 2010 19:36

It is understood that the decision by a French Court to overturn Flavio Briatore’s  ban from Formula One is likely to mean he will continue to met the Football League’s fit and proper person test. QPR1st hope that Mr. Briatore will now go on to clear his name of the allegations which led to the ban and which he continues to deny. These allegations of cheating by deliberately staging an accident to influence the result of a race remain damaging both for the reputation of Mr. Briatore and by association for the reputation of QPR.

Mr. Briatore’s continued involvement in QPR is welcomed if it helps to contribute to the Club's financial stability . We appreciate that Mr. Briatore has denied persistent media claims of interference in team matters but we would urge Mr. Briatore and the rest of the Board to ask themselves some hard and searching questions as to why increased investment has failed to establish stability or longterm success for either the coaching team or the squad. We also hope that Mr. Briatore will step back from trying to impose his vision of a ‘boutique Club’ on QPR and instead make a greater effort to engage with fans and fans groups, with the aim of creating a greater sense of unity, shared purpose and understanding between the Board of Directors and the fan base.

Time to reduce our Carbon Footprint PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 21 December 2009 01:33

With the issue of the environment dominating the news headlines, questions are increasingly being asked as to whether Football Clubs and supporters need to do more to reduce their carbon footprint, According to the Kick It Out campaign website, ‘the issue is‘not yet on the agenda of most fan groups, but as we all follow the outcomes of Copenhagen it will not be long before it is seen as an area as relevant as tackling racism and prejudice”.

If QPR wishes to improve their green credentials it may wish to follow the example set by Manchester City, who have been praised for their work on the environment. City have conducted three carbon footprint audits and have identified a problem in the quarter of a million vehicle miles clocked up by their staff this year.

City are also probably the only club in football with an eco-garden at the main entrance to their offices and certainly the only one to have gained planning permission to install a 120-metre high wind turbine to help power their stadium.

The club have measured vehicle movements on match days, instigated safe routes to the ground for cyclists and pedestrians, cut down car park spaces from 10,000 to 3,000 and ensured that building materials for the construction of the City of Manchester stadium were sourced within 20 miles of the city.

“It’s not a case of saying how wonderful we are,” explains the Head of Corporate Responsibility Pete Bradshaw. “It’s good business practice and it’s good for the club, the fans, the city and, ultimately, the planet. There’s so much that can be done".

Would you like to see the Club and our fans reduce our caron footprint and if so how do you think it could be done?
