Heavy handed Stewarding at Selhurst Park PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 26 November 2009 01:06

QPR1st has raised concerns with the Club about heavy handed stewarding at Loftus Road and it appears that the problem is becoming an issue elsewhere.

Hundreds of Crystal Palace fans are expected to march on Selhurst Park this Saturday before handing in a petition following reports of heavy handed policing and stewarding at their team’s home game against Middlesbrough on Saturday November 7th. The Football Supporters Federation reports that around seven fans were thrown out of the Holmesdale Road Stand. Whilst this number may not be huge it was the manner in which the operation was handled, in a very rough and aggressive fashion, which has angered supporters.

The FSF states, "There have been some pretty serious, and specific, allegations from Palace fans who say stewards acted in a violent, threatening and abusive manner. If true they are absolutely 100 % unacceptable".

LEAGUE LAUNCHES NEW SUPPORTERS SURVEY PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 November 2009 15:47

The Football League is giving fans throughout the country the opportunity to help influence the future of professional football with the launch of its third online supporter consultation.

The Football League Supporters Survey 2010 lets fans have their say on a range of important football issues from the introduction of goal-line technology, sin-bins and salary caps to refereeing standards, football on television and diving.

Fans are also invited to give their views about the club they support with a range of topics up for discussion including ticketing, stewarding, communication with supporters and whether they feel valued by their club.

To take part in The Football League Supporters Survey, visit
http://www.sportswise.info/surveys/fld/fld.htm

The 2010 Survey follows on from previous supporter consultations in 2006 and 2008, both of which saw more than 40,000 fans contribute their views.

In launching The Football League Supporters Survey 2010 League Chairman, Lord Mawhinney, encouraged supporters to take part: "This is the opportunity for fans to tell us their views on the football they watch.

"The opinions expressed by supporters in our two previous surveys contributed to our thinking as we developed our Regulations on Agents, our new Home Grown Players rule and our smoke-free policy at matches.

"They have also given clubs a better understanding of what their fans like and dislike about watching football, which has helped The League identify best practice at club level and improve the supporter experience.

"I hope fans to take this opportunity to make a difference, once again."

Around 400,000 e-mails will be sent to registered supporters, asking them to contribute their views. Additionally, all other supporters will be able to participate online, via The Football League website - www.football-league.co.uk.

By completing the survey, which is being run in conjunction with sports research specialists SportsWise, supporters will have the opportunity to win a 'money can't buy' prize to see their team train and meet the players. There are also 100 Mitre Official Football League balls on offer to lucky winners.

The results of The Football League Supporters' Survey 2010 will be published in the New Year.

Example questions from The Football League Supporters Survey 2010:

- Would you like to see The Football League trial the use of sin-bins in one of its competitions?

- Do you think The Football League should introduce a system that puts a limit on the amount clubs can spend on players' salaries or restricts the number of players they can sign?

- Do you think the standard of refereeing in Football League matches is improving?

- Why did you start supporting your club?

- What might encourage you to attend more of your club's home/away matches?

- Do you feel valued by your club?

- When would you prefer to watch live Football league matches on television?

- Would you be willing to pay to join a subscription service that would enable you to watch your club's away matches on the internet?

Bring back the Fans Forum! PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 21 November 2009 11:44

Supporters provide the Club with its biggest source of income and at the very least should expect to be treated as valuable customers. Yet of course fans are more than just customers- they have an emotional connection with the Club and want a sense of involvement and participation.

Fans Forums provided exactly that, an opportunity for ordinary fans to put their questions to the Team Manager and Captain, as well as the Chairman or another representative of the Board. Those who were unable to attend could still enjoy the event through radio or the internet.

It is a great shame that a Fans Forum has not been held since the time of John Gregory, despite repeated requests from QPR1st and other Supporters Groups. Yet again we call on the Club to restore them.

Should the Club provide a 'Park and Ride' Scheme for Disabled Fans? PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 21 November 2009 12:01

Bristol City is the latest Club to offer a Park and Ride Scheme for Disabled Fans. With increasing difficulties in finding a parking space near to Loftus Road, is it time for the Club to investigate offering a similar scheme here?

Pop out for a ciggie at half time? Would it work at Loftus Road? PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 16 November 2009 00:48

Those who enjoy a cigarette at half time have not taken kindly to the introduction of compulsory SmokeFree Legislation at Loftus Road and feedback QPR1st has received suggests that having to enforce the ban has had a negative impact on the relationship between stewards and fans.

Perhaps the scheme introduced at Britannia Stadium might offer a solution. The issuing of passes and a special reversible turnstile has allowed fans to pop out for a cigarette at half time and then return for the second half. Should QPR1st lobby the Club to introduce a similar scheme at Loftus Road? Email your views to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
