Stewards- You have your say! PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 November 2009 16:37

In response to our article we received several emails from fans, most of them agreeing that stewarding was becoming too heavy handed. One fan said that he had so much harassment that he has actually thought about not attending games. Another fan commented that in the last two years stewards have become more ‘abrasive, rude and generally obstructive to the fans enjoying the matches. In another email we received stewards were described as talking down to people as if they were trash

One fan pointed out that at the Reading match, stewards were in ‘our faces telling us what to do’ whilst stewards turned a blind eye to the away fans who were standing. There was also a comment suggesting that stewards spent too much time constantly trying to find smokers.

Some fans referred to specific incidents where they believed the actions of stewards were unjust or over the top. One correspondent described how the person in front of him was told by stewards that he was standing up too much and was asked to give his season ticket details but in fact the person had only stood up when people needed to get past. Another fan claims that when a stranger sitting next to him brought some alcohol into the stand, he was assumed to be with the man and despite his protests of innocence was asked to leave. In another incident, a fan waving goodbye to away supporters after we scored a goal claims that he received threats that he would be kicked out from a steward accompanied by foul language.

The following paragraph echoes similar sentiments made by other fans:

‘As you stated, home support is absolutely vital for our promotion push and we need to get behind the team as loudly and as boisterously as possible. Stewards should only step in when there is 'excessive foul language' towards players, referees or other fans and stewards, 'racist language' and constant standing when you are obscuring the view of those behind. Any other than that is simply passionate support (and not the Emirates or Stamford Bridge!)’

An alternative point of view were offered by a correspondent who suggested that there is an element within the crowd who only come to the game to taunt the stewards and look to disrupt as well. He also feels that stewards are generally polite in their requests to fans and that they should not also be blamed for enforcing Government regulations. We also heard from a fan who feels the level of Steward Intervention in the South Africa Road stand should be increased.

We will pass this summary onto Steve Pike, QPR’s Operations Manager and look forward to receiving the Club’s response. Juniors Go Free! PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 02 November 2009 19:08

Families have been especially affected by the rising cost of visits to Loftus Road and the Supporters Trust welcomes special deals such as the 'Junior Go Free!' offer for tomorrow's match. Whilst such initatives have a short term impact we hope they will increasingly influence the Club's longterm pricing strategy to ensure today's youngsters become lifetime fans of the Rs.

Attendance at Loftus Road PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 01 November 2009 14:17

QPR1st are pleased that on Friday, the Club achieved its highest attendance this season. Obviously a key factor in this has been the improved performance of our players, yet the impact of promotional schemes such as the ‘Famous Five’ Plan and ‘Friends for a Tenner’ Offer (which QPR1st was happy to lend its support to) should also be recognised.
We hope that such schemes indicate that the Club is now adopting a policy of offering tickets at reasonably priced and enticing rates in order to secure maximum attendance at Loftus Road and that this policy will also be evident when the Club considers the cost of Season Tickets for next year.

Stewarding at Loftus Road PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 01 November 2009 13:52

QPR1st Supporters Trust appreciate that stewards have a difficult and often very challenging role. Nevertheless, we had reason to express our concern to the Club regarding what was perceived to be the introduction of a ‘heavy handed’ approach at the Preston and Reading matches, in particular within Q and R blocks. We believe this approach was unnecessarily confrontational, disruptive and counterproductive.

Following our representation to the Club, QPR1st is pleased to note that the more subtle low level approach normally employed at Loftus Road appeared to have been reintroduced for the Leicester match.  The trust has also not been notified of any incidents involving the stewards at this match despite the large attendance. We hope that this will continue in future matches and thank the Club for their attention to this matter.
