Non-League Day PDF Print E-mail

QPR’s Supporters Trust is happy to support the "non-league football day" on  and encourage all QPR fans to go to a local non-league  match on Saturday 4th September.  In the words of James Doe, a supporter of Harrow Borough FC, "With England playing the night before and the premier league and championship taking a week off, I urge all fans of the big clubs to get out and watch their local non-league team instead on. Given the current financial climate, clubs outside the football league need all the support they can get, so your presence at a game will be genuinely appreciated. With tickets and refreshments at a fraction of the cost, what’s stopping you?”

Non-League Football Day started as a social networking group has now become an overnight sensation, with patronage coming from BBC Radio London, the Football Supporters Federation and various leading sports websites. The scheme is not a protest movement, or a request to permanently change allegiance, but an opportunity for fans to offer their support for semi-pro and grass roots football at a time when more and more clubs are  facing hardship or folding every season. You can find out more information at www.nonleagueday.co.uk which includes maps showing your nearest non-league sides

QPR's Supporters Trust is happy to support the "non-league football day" on Saturday 4th September. The scheme  is the brainchild of James Doe, a supporter of Harrow Borough FC. Its aim is to promote the semi professional game in this country by virtue of a fortuitous break in the football calendar. In James' own words:
"With England playing the night before and the premier league and championship taking a week off, I urge all fans of the big clubs to get out and watch their local non-league team instead on. Given the current financial climate, clubs outside the football league need all the support they can get, so your presence at a game will be genuinely appreciated. With tickets and refreshments at a fraction of the cost, what's stopping you?"
What started as a social networking group has now become an overnight sensation, with patronage coming from BBC Radio London, the Football Supporters Federation and various leading sports websites. The scheme is not a protest movement, or a request to permanently change allegiance, but an opportunity for fans to offer their support for semi-pro and grass roots football at a time when more and more clubs are  facing hardship or folding every season.

Political Parties consider their plans for Supporters Trusts PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 08 April 2010 18:23

QPR's Supporters Trust has been informed that the Labour party is considering two
radical proposals for giving supporters trusts a greater voice in the way their
Club is run.
The first would, in effect, force clubs to hand a proportion of their shares - perhaps
up to 25% - to their supporters' trusts. The mechanism for doing so would be left
to the football authorities to work out.
The second proposal would give fans the opportunity to put together a takeover bid
for their club in the event of it being put up for sale or going into administration.
In a pre-defined window, they would be able to seek financial backing for a new
ownership model that might lead to a community-owned model, a shareholders' trust
or a single owner who pledges to be democratically accountable to fans. The club's
price could be set by an independent, external auditor.

The Conservatives have rejected this plan as an election gimmick with Shadow sports
Minister Hugh Robertson stating there were easier ways of increasing supporter influence
in clubs such as insisting on all clubs having at least one director to represent
supporters.
QPR's Supporters Trust would welcome both supporter representation on the Board
as well as a 25 % share-hold been given over to the trust. We will be writing to
the candidates from the three main political parties for both the White City area
but also from other areas where a large number of QPR fans reside. We will let you
know how they reply.

Good news and bad news for season tickets PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 21:12

QPR 1st is pleased that the club has responded positively to many of the requests made by the Trust in its open letter to the club regarding season ticket prices. The reinstatement of the Early Bird discount is welcomed, although we are disappointed that the ten per cent discount is against this year’s prices. The club is also to be commended for introducing a 0 % finance scheme.

The possibility of a free ticket if we are drawn at home in the Carling Cup shows goodwill and we are sure that season ticket holders will be waving their exclusive 1882 scarves in delight. We will also be looking forward to using our Westfield discount card at all three of the companies that are accepting it. We welcome additional benefits for season ticket holders but only if the club can reassure us that the costs of these benefits are not being passed on to fans through the cost of the season ticket.

The biggest disappointment is that the iniquitous pricing system remains. We acknowledge that changing the seat pricing scheme may not have been the highest priority of the new regime but the QPR 1st will continue to press the club to abandon a system that has ill served fans and has caused much of the resentment between fans and club over recent years.

We are willing to work with the club to look at alternative seat pricing for future seasons. QPR 1st feels that that an opportunity may have been missed and a more radical approach is needed to significantly impact on matchday attendance and the atmosphere at Loftus Road. We also feel it is unlikely that this package alone is going to attract 9,000 Season Ticket holders unless there is serious investment in the playing squad in the summer.
