The Football League Disabled Fans Pilot PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 04 August 2010 01:11

Last year NADS worked with the Football League, MBP and a group of disabled fans to carry out a series of assessments of the disabled fan experience at Football League fixtures. The feedback has not only helped to identify many improvement opportunities but also sets out clearly to Clubs the benefits they’d enjoy if they engaged more fully with the disabled fan community.

Having had a very successful first year, the Football League have announced their intention to continue the project for a further two seasons, so that every Football League club will have been visited as part of this scheme.

However, to do this, they need your help. Mark and Ana (from MBP) would like to recruit more people to help them complete the assessments. They need committed football fans from the disabled community who can attend matches at clubs other than their own and provide detailed feedback on their experiences. In return for completing and returning a feedback form, MBP will pay all related expenses (including travel, tickets, parking, programme, small Club Shop purchase and in-stadia refreshments).

If you are interested in volunteering for the scheme or finding out more, please contact Mark or Ana on 01274 603727 (landline) 07740 701598 (mobile) or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The National Assocation of Disabled Supporters is also currently investigating what accessible transport services are available to disabled fans on match days.  If you use a specific service and would be willing to provide us with details of that service we would be grateful.  We are hoping to put together a guide and are looking for some case studies.  If you have some information please contact us via the postal address above or by email, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Striving for a Level Playing Field PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 08 April 2010 18:21

QPR1st Supporters Trust is pleased to support the National Association of Disabled
Supporters (NADS) 2010 Level Playing Field (LPF) Campaign. This disability awareness
initiative promotes the need for an inclusive and equal experience for all fans.
Around 30,000 disabled fans attend league matches each season and with more than
10 million disabled people in the UK, NADS wants to see that figure grow. The challenges
faced by disabled people are numerous and often unexpected and NADS works alongside
the football family and government lobbying for continued improvements and sharing
good practice where it exists.

Many people will imagine someone in a wheelchair when thinking of disability and
around 1% of the population uses a wheelchair. However there are many types of
disability, some more hidden, and each with specific access needs. This year's campaign
is focusing on ambulant disabled supporters. The term 'ambulant disabled' refers
to people with a wide range of disabilities who are not regular wheelchair users.
This could include, for example, people who have diabetes, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis
or cancer. The facilities they require would vary depending on the specific effects
of the illness or disability.

In order to support the campaign, the Supporters Trust is asking ambulant disabled
supporters, or those who accompany them to matches, to write to us to let us know
about your experiences of visiting Loftus Road. We want to hear if you have any
suggestions or ideas about how your matchday experience could be improved, but we
are equally to keen to find out about what you think the Club does well or particular
members of staff who you think deserve praise.

We will collate the feedback we receive and identify any action points that we think
the Club might want to address, as well as to pass on any positive feedback. We
will not of course pass on any names or personal details to the Club unless you
ask us to do so.

Saturday, 21 November 2009 12:01

Bristol City is the latest Club to offer a Park and Ride Scheme for Disabled Fans. With increasing difficulties in finding a parking space near to Loftus Road, is it time for the Club to investigate offering a similar scheme here?

You can also download the new NADS information leaflet on this very topic by visiting the NADS website: http://www.nads.org.uk/nads-publications-reports_downloads/2.html

We are keen to ensure that both the Club and ourselves follow this guidance. If you come across any examples where you think this isn't the case please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Disabled supporters update PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 23 July 2009 11:07

QPR1st have been proud to contribute to the campaign to improve the facilities for disabled supporters. We are committed to ensuring that QPR is an inclusive environment for anyone who wants to enjoy a game of football.

Supporters representatives recently met with representatives of the Club. It provided an opportunity to pass on feedback from disabled fans. Much of it was positive, in particular regarding the new area for supporters who use wheelchairs but there are some issues that still need to be addressed.

The creation of a disabled supporters group was also discussed. This could provide a means by which disabled supporters could share opinions and experiences as well as enabling more effective liaison with the Club. If anyone is interested in helping to set up such a group contact us on email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
