QPR1st reverses Aylesbury recommendation

The proposed friendly between Aylesbury and Wimbledon MK has been cancelled. Consequently, we at qpr1st are delighted to reverse our recommendation that members avoid going to the friendly between Aylesbury and QPR on July 14th. Instead, we urge members to make every effort to go to the game, so that the Ducks, with whom QPR has had a close relationship over the last few years, can make as much gate money as possible. Directions to Aylesbury’s ground, taken from the unofficial Ducks website, can be found below.

Our original decision to avoid the Aylesbury game was one that was made on principal and reflected strongly held views on the committee. We are well aware that it came in for some fairly sharp criticism from some QPR fans, as well as attracting support, and we understand that many think that it was badly handled. That is a cause for concern to us and we will be reviewing the way that the decision was made and presented to our members.

In the meantime, in response to some of the criticism, we have conducted an e-mail poll of members. The results of this are yet to be finalised, because of a problem with AOL addresses. However, of the limited response that we have had to the poll, roughly 16% of the membership, 55% voted against the committee’s recommendation and 45% for.

Please do your best to be at Aylesbury who, as Gordon Macey has said, have been good friends to QPR in the past.

Travelling to Aylesbury United
By Road
Aylesbury is easily reachable from three major motorways – the M1, the M40 and (of course) the M25. Here’s directions to the ground from all of those places.

From The North
Exit the M1 at J15a, and take the A43 towards Towcester. From there follow all signs to Buckingham on the A413, and stay on the A413 until you reach Aylesbury. Once in Aylesbury, go straight over the first roundabout and the ground is the next turning on the left, about 100 yards on.

From The West
Exit the M40 at Junction 9, then take the A41 first to Bicester and then to Aylesbury. Go straight over the first four roundabouts once you enter Aylesbury itself, following all signs for the A413 to Buckingham. At the fifth roundabout (by the Shell Garage) take the left hand exit. Go left at the next roundabout and the ground is about 100 yards on the right, almost opposite the “Horse & Jockey” pub.

From The East and South
Exit the M25 at Junction 20, and take the A41 signposted for Aylesbury. As you enter Aylesbury, go straight over the first two roundabouts. At the two mini roundabouts (by the Esso Garage), go straight over the first and turn right at the second. Continue on this road, over the bridge and straight over the next roundabout, following any signs for the A413 to Buckingham. Go right at the next roundabout and the ground is about 100 yards on the right, almost opposite the “Horse & Jockey” pub.
