QPR1st embraces Fulham supporters (not literally)

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been busy forging links with our counterparts at Fulham and are actively encouraging them in the development of their own supporters trust.

Fulham fans have been growing increasingly agitated at their club’s inability to settle on a future ground. For our part we pointed out to them, in as kind a way as we could, that we’re not all that keen ourselves for them to be here permanently – so we immediately have a common area of interest!

The potential damage that could be done to QPR through Fulham moving onto our patch full time was one of the themes of a speech given by our deputy chair, Justin Pieris, at one of the first Fulham supporters’ meetings.

Justin’s horror talk on the experience of QPR fans since finding themselves in the wrong league and with a chairman who wanted out, certainly found an interested audience amongst the Fulham faithful. It’s probably fair to say that he opened a few Fulham eyes to the dangers of their current position and we have
promised to keep in touch. William Wall has bravely volunteered to be our link with the Fulham camp (we’ll stop short of calling him a missionary) and he’ll be making sure we maintain a healthy dialogue.

In the meantime, Fulham fans have been in contact with Supporters Direct and we understand that they are now taking the first steps towards forming a trust. That means that there will be supporters trusts for all of West London’s clubs…. bar Chelsea.

A joint statement is expected soon and in the meantime, the Trust remain committed to maintaining good relations with Fulham fans and wish them all the best with their fledgling trust.
